DUBLIN GAMES

RIDER vs STETSON

Nice little matchup at 5 AM here in the states. Stetson, particularly Luke Brown, has bombed two high majors from beyond the arc to start the season. What’s interesting about the Hatters’ high 3PTA rate is that most are coming off the dribble, not catch and shoot, as they have the highest “off the dribble” 3PTA rate in the country, per ShotQuality. Baggett used a 3-2 zone for the majority of the game against Providence, a scheme he really started using in earnest towards the end of last season, but zoning Stetson at the moment seems like a poor choice. Speaking of zone, Donnie Jones is renowned as one of the games zone defense masters, and the Hatters almost exclusively used a 1-3-1 morphing zone press against USF and FSU. That’s going to be an effective strategy against Rider, as you really want to take away Murray and Powell’s dribble, and they shooting they displayed against PC is extremely atypical of the Broncs as individual players and team as a whole. The zone of course makes the Hatters weak on the D glass, and Rider can crash the O glass, but are a little thinner in the frontcourt with Ogemuno-Johnson not making the trip due to passport issues. I have a strong lean to the Hatters here.

NIAGARA vs CENTRAL ARKANSAS

Niagara’s offense is pretty brutal. 23 second APL and two sub 60 possession games. Central Arkansas is the opposite, coming off an 80 possession affair with Little Rock and currently playing at the 7th fastest pace in the country. Paint probing Cam Hunter hunts early offense for the Bears, but when forced into the halfcourt, they run the offense through Kayouloud on the block. Even if Niagara is dictating their extreme snail pace, they don’t have a poster defender who has played more than 5 minutes in a game thus far. UCA has extended pressure at a not infrequent amount, and the Purple Eagles struggled with Maryland’s ball pressure (UCA of course isn’t Maryland defensively). Pretty weird game, but UCA has a better idea of who are they and what the want to do on both ends of the floor.
