11/24 Monday evening thoughts

VCU vs Villanova

Have a feeling the Rams are going to get ran off the court tonight. VCU’s halfcourt defense will get tested because the Nova guards, particularly Arcidiacono, will be able to handle havoc, and I don’t see them continuing to shoot as poorly from outside as they have early this season. VCU doesn’t have anyone behind Mo Allie Cox, so getting Ochefu involved early would be wise.

FIU vs Georgia Southern

Both teams are likely to stay in a zone here, but FIU actually has some functional height with the addition of Diaz. Likely to come down to who hits from outside more consistently, and I trust Hewitt the most in that situation. Also look out for Allsmiller. 6’5 shooter could break loose tonight.

Western Carolina vs Oakland

Could be a fun one as both teams will try to press and get in transition, particularly WCU with their lack of height. Transition 3s are the name of the game for the Catamounts with a trio of gunners in Sinclair/Brown/Harrelson. Petros has a massive advantage inside for Oakland though. Kampe loves to beat teams at their own game, but he has to let Petros work in the post tonight instead of limiting him to offensive rebounder.

Murray St vs Xavier

Jarvis Williams needs to exploit the athletic advantage he has over the slower footed Stainbrook in the half court. The Racers take care of the ball, and if they run some motion sets that catch Stainbrook/Farr/Reynolds in man to man situations away from the basket, Murray has a chance. Prohm doesnt usually push the pace, and doing so against Xavier looks like it would be a bad idea, as they’ve been an offensive juggernaut so far. Ultimately, Murray doesnt have enough weapons, and no one who can match up with Bluiett.

Santa Clara vs Michigan St

I love the Brownridge and Clark duo, and if Dawson can’t play, that takes away Sparty’s best perimeter defender, by far.
